What should I consider when choosing a lease car?

Given the vast selection available, it can be quite a challenge to find the lease car that meets your requirements exactly. And we’re not just talking about the brand and model, but also about the entire composition of your lease package. This means that for the same lease car, you may pay a lot more or less with one company than with another. Therefore, it is important to consider the following points.

The duration of your lease agreement

The first and perhaps most important factor to consider is how long you decide to lease the car. If you opt for 60 months, you will pay considerably less per month than if you wish to return the car after two years. However, keep in mind that you are committed for that period of time. Terminating the lease early is not always possible, and there are usually substantial penalties for doing so. A good alternative is short-term leasing. With this option, you lease from as little as one month, and you can return the car at any time. The monthly cost may be slightly higher, but the flexibility you gain is well worth it.

The mileage allowance

Your lease contract also specifies how many kilometers you are allowed to drive annually. Think of this like a call bundle for your mobile phone. If you exceed the limit, you will be charged a predetermined amount per minute—or in the case of short-term leasing, per kilometer. However, if you drive fewer kilometers than allowed, these unused kilometers are often not reimbursed. Therefore, carefully consider how many kilometers you expect to drive annually and tailor your lease package accordingly.

Options: included or not?

Furthermore, modern cars can come equipped with various technical features. Some people may not care about them, while others may want them all. Heated seats, parking sensors, rear-view cameras, Lane Assist, and so on. However, additional options typically come with an extra monthly cost. Additionally, with some providers or certain cars, it may not be possible to choose certain options. Therefore, carefully review which options are included as standard and the cost of adding certain additional options.

Insurance

The way a lease car is insured can also vary between leasing companies. While comprehensive insurance is quite common, there are still providers who only insure their cars with third-party liability coverage. If you prefer comprehensive insurance, you will pay an additional fee for it. Also, look into the conditions for replacement transportation both domestically and abroad.
